1. Ministry of Education (MoE)
Academic Theory
The Ministry of Education (MoE) is the apex government body responsible for formulating policies related to higher and technical education in India. It oversees national institutions such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded institutes.
2. AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education)
AICTE regulates technical education in India by approving engineering colleges, new academic programs, and student intake capacities. It also promotes quality improvement, innovation, and industry collaboration.
3. UGC (University Grants Commission)
The UGC recognizes universities and maintains standards of higher education. It ensures that engineering degrees awarded by recognized universities comply with national academic regulations.
4. JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority)
JoSAA conducts centralized counselling and seat allocation for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other participating Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs) based on national entrance examination ranks.
5. CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board)
CSAB conducts special counselling rounds to fill vacant seats in participating institutes after the completion of JoSAA counselling, following the applicable admission guidelines.
6. State Counselling Authorities
Each state government appoints a counselling authority to manage admissions to state universities and government engineering colleges. Admissions are generally based on state entrance examinations or JEE Main, depending on the state’s admission policy.
7. University Counselling Authorities
Many universities conduct their own counselling for engineering admissions. These authorities manage registration, merit preparation, seat allotment, document verification, and admission confirmation for their affiliated institutions.
